Some language advice for non-New-Zealanders:

-  Māori is spelled with a macron over the a which means the vowel has a long sound

- Māori is not a language, te reo (Māori) is

- Aotearoa is the original (pre-colonised) name of New Zealand

- Pākehā is the word for white person

- the plural of kiwi is kiwi (not kiwis …or kiwibirds)

- when using any reo such as talking about native birds, always check if there are any macrons! macrons often change the meaning of words!

- unrelated to language, cultural appropriation is not cool!! if you are an artist be respectful around the choices you make and be respectful of what you can and cannot draw

These are damn difficult times for all of us but please don’t be a criminal, don’t give us ignorance. Educate yourself on everything that’s happening and advocate for human rights.

YOU ARE NOT SOLELY THE REGION WHERE YOU LIVE. YOU ARE ONE OF US. YOU ARE A CITIZEN OF THE WORLD.

it can be tempting to live your life like a prequel. to live as if you’re setting up your own story.and once you lose the weight, once you have the money, once you graduate school, once you’re in a real relationship, once, once, once. then finally, you’ll begin to live, and everything you do up until that point is some kind of half-life, some unimportant foreword you can skip. don’t do this. inhabit your life completely. sink fully into the wealth of your existence. the power to manifest is in the fearless owning of who you are, so that you can shape where you’re going.

People love natives in such a superficial way. People wanna stand with natives when we’re talking about the trees, and the land. People wanna stand with natives when we talk about philosophies of love and togetherness. But as soon as it’s time to talk about political side of being native. About dismantling a system built on the genocide of our people. About how we need a new system that isn’t built upon capital gain and benefitting white bodies. About putting up a fight. About how the colonial state we reside in is a disgusting imperial plague on this land. Suddenly y’all don’t wanna talk native.

「Quick tip: A nice way to track your reading speed (pages per min) is playing long instrumental music while reading. After reaching your reading page goal, pause and check to see how long you listened to the music when you started reading. 📖 」
