Some language advice for non-New-Zealanders:
- Māori is spelled with a macron over the a which means the vowel has a long sound
- Māori is not a language, te reo (Māori) is
- Aotearoa is the original (pre-colonised) name of New Zealand
- Pākehā is the word for white person
- the plural of kiwi is kiwi (not kiwis …or kiwibirds)
- when using any reo such as talking about native birds, always check if there are any macrons! macrons often change the meaning of words!
- unrelated to language, cultural appropriation is not cool!! if you are an artist be respectful around the choices you make and be respectful of what you can and cannot draw
